<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Over deze aflevering</h2>



<p>Hoe ga je om met meningsverschillen in een internationale context? In deze laatste aflevering van het seizoen duiken we met Gerald Smith in de Disagreeing-schaal van Erin Meyer. Gerald groeide op met de Japanse en Nederlandse taal en cultuur, en woonde en werkte ruim 25 jaar in Tokio, Kuala Lumpur, Barcelona en Beijing. Tegenwoordig is hij Partner en Managing Director Japan Desk bij Park Corporate Finance—een rol waarin culturele gevoeligheid onmisbaar is.<br>Wij Nederlanders zijn eraan gewend om onze mening te geven—graag, vaak en soms ook ongevraagd. Voor ons is dat een teken van betrokkenheid en eigenaarschap. Maar in Japan werkt dat heel anders. Aan de hand van persoonlijke anekdotes en scherpe observaties laat Gerald zien hoe subtiel, gelaagd en relationeel meningsverschillen daar worden benaderd. We leren wat nemawashi is, ontdekken waarom etentjes na werktijd zoveel meer zijn dan gezelligheid, en hoe je als directe Nederlander kunt navigeren door deze onzichtbare, maar o zo bepalende spelregels.<br>Verwacht mooie verhalen, echt frisse perspectieven en veel humor terwijl we de verschillen én overeenkomsten ontdekken.</p>

<p>Met 35 jaar internationale ervaring, waarvan 15 jaar als ondernemer in sourcing en logistiek met zijn bedrijf Fingertips, kent Jos Laurijsen de uitdagingen van leidinggeven in verschillende culturen. <p>Toen Petra met haar gezin naar Berlijn verhuisde en haar bedrijf Demucho daar voortzette, wist ze dat er cultuurverschillen zouden zijn. Maar ze had nooit verwacht dat ze zó groot zouden zijn; we zijn tenslotte buurlanden! <p>Wat een heerlijke podcast! Met z’n allen naar Milaan om daar te praten met Henrike Hartemink. Met deze scherpe en zeer goed belezen CFO hebben we echt diepgravend gespard hoe je vertrouwen opbouwt in andere culturen. Henrike heeft voor Friesland Campina acht jaar in Hong Kong en Singapore gewerkt en is sinds een jaar CFO van Novartis Italië. Eén ding werd haar al snel duidelijk: vertrouwen opbouwen werkt overal anders.<br>In Nederland toon je betrouwbaarheid door afspraken na te komen en efficiënt te werken. In Italië draait vertrouwen om de relatie: snel een koffie achter je bureau drinken? ‘Not done.’ Een informeel gesprek bij de koffiebar of een uitgebreid diner is essentieel—en vaak is één keer zeker niet genoeg.</p>

<p>Hoe kijk jij naar tijd in een internationale context? <p>Carrière maken gaat snel in Amerika! Tijdens het interview was ze nog Manager Data Analytics bij Clayco in Chicago. Daar leidt Aukje een internationaal team, inclusief een team in India. Met eerdere woonervaring in de VS en Hong Kong dacht ze goed voorbereid te zijn op culturele verschillen. Toch kwam ze er al snel achter dat haar directe communicatiestijl niet altijd in goede aarde viel. Inmiddels heeft ze met vallen en opstaan geleerd hoe ze feedback tactisch verpakt. <p> Met 17 jaar internationale ervaring in Europa, Afrika en Azië heeft Arjan Toor de kunst van besluitvorming in verschillende culturen meesterlijk onder de knie gekregen. <p>Als Nederlandse architect was Inge gewend om helder en direct te communiceren: zeg wat je bedoelt en wat er moet gebeuren. Maar tijdens haar jaren in Azië, waar ze voor Rem Koolhaas’ OMA werkte aan grootschalige projecten, ontdekte ze dat deze stijl niet overal werkte. In onderhandelingen leerde ze tussen de regels doorlezen, subtiel manoeuvreren en, zoals haar Taiwanese collega zei, “meebewegen als bamboe.”</p>



<p>In deze aflevering deelt Inge hoe ze schakelde tussen direct en indirect communiceren, hoe strategische rolverdeling haar hielp in onderhandelingen, en hoe ze als universitair docent in Hong Kong nog steeds dagelijks culturele verschillen ervaart.Een leerzame, herkenbare en verrassend leuke aflevering over de basis van interculturele communicatie—voor iedereen die weleens denkt:&nbsp;<em>Hoe kan dit zo anders overkomen dan ik bedoelde?</em></p>

<p>It all begins with a personalized one-on-one  development assessment or a scan (shortened version); a sparring session between our experienced organizational psychologist and the participant. Through a series of insightful psychological tests, we delve deep into the participants&#8217;s existing skills and uncover untapped areas for growth and change potential. Our innovative AOP timeline interview technique reveals the participant&#8217;s personal drivers, values, and genuine motivations. In the Full Development Assessment we use a specialized roleplay actor in interactive roleplays to explore behaviour in different settings. As a trio we reflect on the experience. Our organizational psychologist then generates a personalized report that serves as the compass for their transformative leadership journey.</p>
